This article was extremely interesting about the creation of net.art and the creation of the online art movement and how it got traction and helped save the art world. At the end of the 80’s the art market was dying and the emergence of the internet posed an opportunity for artists to take advantage of the space, and revitalize their profession. Although for many years the profits were not recognized to these artists, the idea they brought to the table revolutionized art as we know it and in reality how we interact with the internet and websites. Web art is a way of free expression via the internet where you can be authentically yourself and curate your own viewer experience. It is very interesting what the article said about eastern europe and the political ideas that were created as subjects of this virtual art movement. I like that discussion of reverting to graffiti like art forms and I think a lot of more simple digital art captures this sentiment as a lot of language can be communicated through simple imagery. I think memes and instagram and all the forms of digital media we consume would be here without these pioneers. The fact that these digital collections are what seem to inspire collections and projects on platform like youtube and instagram is really crazy to think about how far we've come in really such a short amount of time, I think the internet is still leaving its infancy in the grand scheme of things and can't wait to see what the future hold for it as well as digital art.
