After reading about the visual literacy of the Bain d’ Images era it was a very interesting period to analyze. I think it is safe to say that following the eleven Visual Literacy competencies, many people of the “Bain d’ Images” era were not completely visually literate. The photos I provided are to show that people are swimming in a sea of images like the man with the fish, and look natural but almost unaware that their surroundings are unnatural. Furthermore we have these images we constantly have around us similar to the ones hung on the walls of our rooms, they are there so consistently you start to forget they're there, almost go blind to them similarly to the way we go blind to all of the influences we have from the media we consume and how it shapes us as people. We are so overwhelmed by images it seems we have a disconnect, from being able to accurately articulate ourselves through art. The standard consumer can easily be fooled by images on a screen and therefore have trouble making accurate assumptions about truth and the world around them. It's an interesting phenomena that kind of relates to my zine project and reflects childhood creativity. Children learn a lot visually but to me it seems that as we age we lose touch with this visual connection with life. Only through careful consideration and effort can one truly be visually literate in today's visually overstimulated world.
